Just a thought

Before I post anything else about ADP or myself, I wanted to take a moment to say a few words about the Mumbai killings of these last two days.

I want to tell my Indian friends that we know you're hurting and we know how helpless you feel. We feel helpless too, because we can't reach across and tell you we're with you. We can't do anything about the anger you will feel and we can't do anything about politicians blaming Pakistan and yet another finger pointed at Muslims.

I want to tell my India friends that we hope you're alright, and your families are safe and you are with your loved ones. From the bottom of our hearts we hope you'll make it through this and believe that we across the border are just as shocked and horrified at this incredible scale of evil.

And I want to tell my Pakistani friends too step back and understand. For the next couple of days we are going to feel increasingly cornered and vulnerable as the international community is slowly going to drag our name and religion through the mud. This is not the time to be defensive. This is the time to reach out and set and example. We can yell ourselves hoarse trying to defend our religion and our country. But a quiet sign of support to the people across the fence will be far more effective in showing our humanity.

Anonymous: i think we should all for a while ignore both the country's news channels.
apart from reporting (which comes with big responsibilities) BOTH countries are indulging in sensationalizing the news.

so please don't even get into the debate about what one news channel shows when ALL and i do mean indian news channels too) are doing the same thing.
does wonders for ratings.

You are a musician, right?

This someone from India. I pray for Pakistan and I pray for India.

I pray that the good things in life, love, peace, music, health, happiness win over all things that seem hell bent on destroying our planet.

God bless

Hey Khizzy..you are right..
I really appreciate that many Pakistanis like you sympathezise with us at the
face of such a tragedy..But I was just
appalled by that tv broadcast and couldnt digest it that Pakistan's politicians would make such comments. I mean, if only they also stand united with us and the world to fight terrorism, it can happen. But well, you are right that there is no point getting
carried away by either country's media!

I hope there are many more sensible people like you who want the world
to get rid of terrorism at all costs..

I'm confused, distraught, outraged.
My anger is brimming, and same is the case for a million others.
But I just can't decipher.. where is the anger leading us? We are angry, we are all condemning and criticizing..but what are we really DOING???

This counts Omar.

But "your" religion is also the religion of so many millions in our country and Indians like me hate it just as much when terrorists by virtue of being of a certain religion sully their entire community.

I don't know if it counts, but I don't think this is about Islam.

D is right - this is not about Islam or muslims. Not at all. We have millions of muslims in India and they are proud to be Indians and we are proud that they are Indians. There's so many of them. Starting with APJ Abdul Kalam...

I am afraid, however, that it is time for Pakistani Govt. to walk the walk and talk the talk. They have been talking for quite a long time but nothing beyond that. In fact, it is an extraordinary opportunity for them to show that they truly want to fight terrorism. And there is still time. Once your army and ISI cross the limits even the civilian good-heated population of Pakistan (like yourself) will not be able to turn it back. Forget India, it is poison for Pakistan as well and I think you know it.

Say no to religious hatred and urge your government to do the right thing - you and other good people in Pakistan can do that to help the world.

And Khizzy, if you truly want to know, most of the Indian TV channels are reporting facts. Sure there are few shitty ones like India TV but stick to Times Now and/or Aaj Tak and you will get mostly facts. I know....Hemant Karkare was a known face in my extended family.

Omar,

Real pleasure to come across this post...

i beleive that Evil people are an aberation to humanity and can come out of any religion.

Religion is a powerful tool to influence the masses but still you can't convince humanity to kill in the name of God.

those who get convinced are an aberation.

Indian news channels also sensationalize but mostly take the right stand.

Unfortunately, same may not be true about all the P news channels.

i prefer watching BBC as they never sensationalize news...

Certain islamic forces are being myopic and causing great harm to Islam and Muslims more than everyone else...

We must collectively protect ourselves from the sinister motives of these forces.

If we end up fighting each other it will only spell party time for these sinsiter islamic forces...

We need the masses on both sides to know who the real enemy is...

sigh...not easy..

first step is to speak up.

I am going to pass the link to this post around...

Cheers!

i just hope the people who are spreading hatred think about it, realise it. and stop. they themselves are being used and fooled. god knows who is engineering all this. this was a good post. i am an indian. and i think india and pakistan should never have been divided. but that's another story. this is a global problem now. i just wish there was an honest war in the entire world instead of targeting unarmed civilians. we should all stop believing in hatred and revenge. can someone take a message across to any religious extremists in india, pakistan, or the world. by killing unarmed innocents you are commiting the worst kind of crime that no god or religion can forgive.

Today we have reached a state were one man is another's enemy.
Terrorists are also human like you and me, but all the look for is
destruction. Its sad to see what our generation is going through at
this point in time. Its high time that each one of us across the seven
seas, various continents, varied races and unique cultures stand and
raise our voices, together in one voice state that we can on longer
tolerate terrorism. That we can show theses people that we can
againist what is happening. better to do something rather than nothing
at all. So what do we want from you, pretty simple join hands with us
in our attempt to wipe this dirty germ off our system. And that is not

Thank you very much for this post. I know I'm a little late here, but better late than never.
There ARE people in the world who know that the entirety of Islam and Pakistan are not to blame for the attacks, but for each one like that there are a hundred who need to see for themselves that the terrorists are just a few bad eggs in the basket. Thank you for showing them :).

I hope your country makes it through this tough time. Heck, I hope both our countries make it through intact, though scars will be inevitable.
